Batman's a character that interests me. He doesn't seem to fall in the super hero archetype because of his lack of supernatural powers, but he does have a unique fighting style. Villains and heroes are affected by their past, but batman has kind of a twisted past. His parents were killed by a criminal after a movie they saw in the cinema, and from then he trained in China or India (seems to be an argument where he learned to fight so I put in both) to make Gotham City safer, so others don't suffer the same faith he did when he was little. Here's the twist tho; Think of a little kid who has no parents growing up, and we all know parents symbolize safety and guidance, so wouldn't he be growing up adopting the ideas of a criminal mind?
Fame, attention, and popularity is what the regular super hero gets, but Batman surprises me as he seems to avoid those things unlike his friend superman who's always in the media. Any ideas why? We all heard the old saying "brains beats brawns", and our regular hero uses brawn vs brawn, but Batman uses brain vs brain as all his enemies he faces are all highly intelligent such as Joker, Bane, and David. Any suggestions why other heros use their strenght and batman uses his mind?
Could batman or Bruce Wayne be a villain in disguise of a hero because Out of all the batman series I saw our hero seems to have have a mind of a criminal, and knows accurately what his enemy is doing. Is that why he runs away from the cops all the time? or the media so people don't find out his horrible truth about him.Is that why he doesn't fit in our regular heroic archetype?
What are you suggestions to these questions I have.

Take a look at the definition of the anti-hero; Batman, the Dark Knight, possesses qualities that are not heroic, yet we still regard him as a hero.
ReplyDeleteStart applying more archtypes to your postings. For instance, why cloak a hero in black? What does that reveal about Batman? Which archetype does his Butler fufill? etc.
I think the message that you are saying is that, although the character of batman doesn't embody the regular traits or a hero, he is still regarded as a hero because of his motives and actions. If you look at his motive, it is simply to help society so that others would not be in the same position he was in, when he lost his parents due to crime. Batman also still has values in the sense that he governs himself and never kills any of the criminals. This means that the character of anti-hero is inappropriate for the situation, because Batman isn't fighting against society. The name the Dark Knight is more fitting, as it is a description of a hero cloaked in black representing secrecy, even though his intentions are good.
ReplyDeleteGreat interpretation Adam! I got a question for you. Why do you think Batman prefers to work by himself, but when I see him he seems to forcefully accept the idea of having a sidekick because no one wants to constantly be alert knowing if his sidekick is safe or constantly saving him from kidnapping. What I think about the dark cloak he wears is to describe the dark gloomy atmosphere of Gotham city.
ReplyDeleteOne other thing I noticed about super heroes is that they can be anyone, but its the idea of how we accept them depending on there past. for example, in the series terminator arnold schwarzenegger begins as villain trying to kill John Connor, but at the end he tries to redeem himself by saving his victims life.
ReplyDeleteNice thinking! I have always seen that happen, but I never think about it. The character you referenced is kinda like a redeemable devil. Nothing can stop him and he'll kill anyone who comes in his ways. That is seen in a lot of movies, but they change there ways because of a certain person they are trying to impress or they realized that the life they live in they can't handle through learning from other people and realizing how important peace is.
ReplyDeleteBut in your case hes a machine so hes programed to be good or not.
ReplyDeleteHi Omid, in regards to the antihero archetype, when the main character explores his or her inner essential being, what I'm wondering is... How many times does Hassan penetrate your anus on a biweekely basis? Thanks for your thoughts.
